The 2014 Harley-Davidson Road King Classic and Touring range has been totally revamped as part of ‘Project Rushmore’
Project Rushmore is a design concept aimed at making the bike more comfortable for both rider and pillion and also making the bike easier to control. This has been achieved by amongst other things the addition of better controls and instrumentation, a hydraulic clutch system and better suspension.
The Road King Classic has been redesigned for 2014 and it has been given the full Rushmore treatment, however, it still retains its classic heritage and is considered to be the best incarnation of the model to date.
The bike is powered by an all new rubber mounted high output twin cam 103 air-cooled engine, that includes an integrated oil cooler, this feeds through to the back wheel via the six-speed cruise drive gearbox. This new configuration gives the bike more power when two-up or carrying luggage.
Talking of which, luggage is an all-important part of a touring bike, the Road King Classic comes with leather-wrapped injection moulded hard saddlebags that maintain their shape over time.
If you are going to make it faster and more powerful, then you must also improve the braking system. The bike comes equipped with Brembo 4 piston callipers with a new anti-locking braking system that also includes linked brakes and ABS. Keeping all that power in check is a 17” front wheel shod with a 130-width tyre, whilst the rear is a 16” wheel with a 180 tyre.
The 2014 model also comes equipped with a detachable windshield, dual Halogen headlamps and fog lamps, air-adjustable rear suspension and five different colour schemes; Vivid Black, Brilliant Silver Pearl, Morocco Gold Pearl, Two-Tone Mysterious Red Sunglo/Blackened Cayenne Sunglo, Two-Tone Birch White/Midnight Pearl.
Starting price for the basic Harley-Davidson Road King Classic model is £17,595 and as with any Harley, it can be fully customised and given its own unique look.
